Walnut Creek, CA – The dog trainers at Mighty Dog Academy are using innovative training techniques to continue to advance the dog training profession as we move into 2021.
These dog trainers are specialists at developing a custom training plan based on the temperament and behaviors of each individual dog. Gone are the days of yank and crank dog training in a group session where your pet is distracted and correction collars and brute force is used to make your dog comply.
In our recent interview with these trainers at Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek, we learned Mighty Dog Academy Instructors have an innovative training protocol that first confirms your dog knows the command or technique. Dogs can be rewarded with a treat or two for performing the known command. In the rare case that a dog knows the training command but refuses to comply, aversives can be introduced, but only as a last result and after higher-value rewards have been explored.
This proved to be highly effective with the dogs we were watching and repeated positive rewards gave each pup a spring in their step and they were all eager students ready to take on the next learning task.
